Tutor Testimonials

"Working with Oxbridge Applications has been a pleasure in ways that I never expected or considered when I first joined the team. I figured it would be a pleasant opportunity to think about and discuss the subject that I spent 3 years studying and fell in love with during my time at Cambridge. In actual fact the greatest joy I derive from it is having the chance to inspire that same academic curiosity in students and watch how they develop. The nature of the game is that our role is of course to provide knowledge and admissions expertise, but genuine academic interest is vital, and something that can't easily be faked in interview. As such the job isn't just to lecture students on various topics. It is to develop a fun and exciting environment within the subject, such that they want to pursue the knowledge and critical thinking themselves. Given the nature of the task, it should come as no surprise that all the tutors I've met through Oxbridge Applications love it."

"I have really enjoyed working as a tutor for Oxbridge Applications so far. Not only has it been wonderful to be able to help my students achieve their dreams of attending top UK universities to study Classics, but working with them has also reminded me of my own love of the subject. Without my students and their passion for the ancient world, I might not currently be completing my masters degree in Classics!"

"Mentoring with OA is a unique experience. The absence of a set syllabus allows you the freedom to introduce fresh topics with every session, have imaginative and open ended conversations, and share your own passions (although I can’t guarantee they’d all thank me for insisting we discuss the implosion of the west Roman state). The high academic standard of the Premier students also means you are frequently challenged, and always learning. Thanks to candidates last year, for example, I was introduced to theories of class consciousness in nineteenth century England, critiqued an economist’s macrohistorical model of state formation and collapse, and revisited undergraduate memories of the finer points of early Reformation theology. It’s also great to develop mentoring relationships that go beyond just ‘tutoring’, and one of the most rewarding aspects of the process is the non academic support, reassurance, and guidance you can offer. Having got to know students personally and encouraged them every step of the way, it’s all the more satisfying to hear when they’ve been successful and a great feeling to know you’ve helped them achieve their ambitions."
