Update on Oxford University Admissions Tests

This week Oxford University have announced that, from 2026, they will be using admissions tests owned and managed by UAT-UK.

UAT-UK, a collaboration between Imperial and Cambridge Universities, run several computer-based admissions tests that are already used by numerous UK universities (including Cambridge). This brings the Oxford admissions process in line with other top UK universities, meaning applicants are less likely to need to take multiple admissions test.

This means that from 2026, Oxford University will be using the following admissions tests:

Which Courses will be Affected?

Applicants to the following courses will be required to sit a UAT-UK test as follows:

  • Biomedical Sciences: ESAT

  • Computer Science: TMUA

  • Computer Science and Philosophy: TMUA

  • Economics and Management: TARA

  • Engineering Science: ESAT

  • History and Economics: TARA

  • History and Politics: TARA (still tbc)

  • Human Sciences: TARA

  • Mathematics/Mathematics and Statistics: TMUA

  • Mathematics and Computer Science: TMUA

  • Mathematics and Philosophy: TMUA

  • Physics: ESAT

  • Physics and Philosophy: ESAT

  • Politics, Philosophy and Economics: TARA

  • Psychology (Experimental): TARA

  • Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics: TARA

Further details including test dates, registration and booking instructions for 2027-entry tests will be available on the UAT-UK website from April 2026. Applicants for the above courses at Oxford are reminded that they must register for and sit the October sitting of the tests. 

Will Other Admissions Test Still be Used?

Oxford will still be using the UCAT (University Clinical Aptitude Test) for Medicine applicants, as well as the LNAT (Law National Aptitude Test) for law applicants, as per previous years.

No other Oxford undergraduate courses will be using an admissions test in 2026 for 2027 entry.
