AHAA Course

The AHAA Cambridge (Arts-Humanities Admissions Assessment) is an admissions exam designed to rank the applicants to arts and humanities courses at the University of Cambridge to help admissions tutors separate excellent candidates from one another as part of the admissions test. We here at Oxbridge Applications are specialists in all-things Admissions Test, and offer a range of options to help you prepare for the AHAA test, including bespoke AHAA courses, AHAA Cambridge mock tests, and various free e-resources and guides to help promising applicants showcase the best of their abilities when it comes to sitting the real AHAA Cambridge test.

Sessions are arranged according to your schedule and are completely flexible to fit in with your school, work, or other commitments. What is the AHAA?

The AHAA is a pre-interview test in which applicants are asked to sit prior to their Cambridge interview. The test itself is made up of two sections. Section 1 consists of multiple choice questions that are the same irrespective of which subject the applicant is applying for. Section 2 asks for essay responses to questions that are different based on the subject being applied to.

What courses require the AHAA?

The AHAA is set by Cambridge University for students applying to study arts and humanities subjects. These are Education, History, History and Politics, History and Modern Languages, Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic studies, Asian and Middle Eastern studies and Human, Social and Political Sciences.

How is the AHAA used?

Cambridge University uses the AHAA as a standardised format for assessing and benchmarking their applicants. The exam generally rewards problem solving and essay construction over specific content knowledge (even in the second section of the paper), so that students taking different qualifications at school can access the syllabus. Cambridge University uses students’ marks in the AHAA to make decisions about which applicants they should invite to interview. The vast majority of applicants to Cambridge’s highly competitive arts and humanities courses will have similarly excellent grades, so an applicant’s AHAA test score heavily influences this decision.
