Real Student Examples

Every package is built around you — your subject, your timeline, and your consultant. Here are two examples of how a package is put together for a real applicant.

Example Package 1

Sofia is applying to study History. She has a rough draft but is unsure how to structure her academic interests into a compelling statement. Here is an example of how her four reviews are structured.

Review One: a 45-minute video session with her consultant. Reading Sofia's draft, her consultant found it covered too much without enough depth. Together they focused on her key interests in social history and historiography and restructured the statement around these. The consultant also noted that Sofia named several books but rarely discussed them, and asked her to develop a clear argument for each.

Review Two: a second 45-minute video session after Sofia submits a revised draft. With the structure in place, her consultant focused on academic voice, helping her move from description to analysis by drawing out what she thought and why. They also revised the opening to focus on a specific historical question rather than a broad statement.

Review Three: a detailed round of offline tracked edits focusing on content, style, and structure. Her consultant tightened sentences, removed two weak anecdotes, and improved links between paragraphs so the statement read as a continuous argument. Each change included a comment explaining the reasoning.

Review Four: a final offline polish ensuring the statement is submission-ready. With the substance settled, this round focused on precision and flow, including word choice, rhythm, and a confident closing paragraph pointing to the kind of historian Sofia wanted to become. She was left confident that the statement reflected her best academic self.

Example Package 2

Marcus is applying to study Biochemistry. He has notes and ideas but no draft yet. Here is an example of how his four reviews are structured.

Review One: a 45-minute video session in which his consultant helps Marcus turn scattered notes into a plan. They identified his main interest in the molecular basis of disease and suggested building the statement around this rather than listing topics. Together they mapped a clear arc from his initial interest through wider reading and experience to his future aims.

Review Two: a second 45-minute session after Marcus submits his first full draft. His consultant found it strong on enthusiasm but light on depth, and focused on major structural and content changes. Marcus was pushed to engage critically with his reading and show his scientific reasoning. They also rebalanced the statement to give more space to the science and less to extracurriculars.

Review Three: a round of offline tracked edits on the revised draft. His consultant refined content, style, and structure, sharpening the academic tone and cutting vague phrasing. Detailed comments explained every suggested change, including why claims needed evidence and how to express technical points with precision.

Review Four: a final offline polish leaving Marcus with a submission-ready statement. This round ensured the science was accurate and clearly expressed, the argument flowed, and the statement gave interviewers clear talking points, with lines designed to invite follow-up questions Marcus could confidently discuss.

Hear From Our Applicants

Thousands of students have used our Personal Statement Package to strengthen their applications to Oxford and Cambridge

Here's what some of them had to say.

We hired OA to help us navigate the UCAS application as we were applying from the US and were unfamiliar with the process. Theo Boyce worked with our son and he was admitted with unconditional offers to almost all the universities he applied to. He helped with course selection, interview prep, guidance on the personal statement. Despite the time difference meetings were easily arranged and emails answered within seconds. We are incredibly impressed with the service we received and cannot recommend OA enough

OA Personal Statement Package Client

I cannot recommend Oxford Applications highly enough to any sixth form student looking for support on their Oxbridge application: from general tips and navigating the challenging application process to tailored personal statement guidance, they ensure that every student feels confident and well-prepared.

OA Personal Statement Package Client

Specific and personalised feedback on my personal statement from professionals, as well as subject specific exam prep for university entrance tests. Very beneficial.

OA Personal Statement Package Client

I used this service for help with my personal statement, and the tutor was very helpful, giving very useful feedback! When I got an interview, I did a few mock interviews with these Oxford tutors. They really put me in a realistic interview setting, which definitely helped me feel more confident about the real ones. I can safely say I was very satisfied by this service, especially after receiving a conditional offer from the college I applied to!

OA Personal Statement Package Client

Excellent customized service provided by Theo for all UK Universities, not just Oxbridge. He was a huge help with the Personal Statement, but also helped research the best universities and courses to apply for. A very professional and friendly service. My daughter got an offer from her top choice University.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that putting together a personal statement can be stressful, however, we are here to ease that stress. Here are our tips on how to write a great personal statement:

  • Start early - It's important to start preparing on time, therefore you should ideally have your first draft done by the end of the summer holidays before Year 13.
  • Focus on academic interests - Admission decisions are based on academic ability, therefore you should focus on showcasing your understanding and passion about your chosen subject.
  • Don’t mention the university by name - Your personal statement needs to be relevant to all universities you are applying to.
  • Try to be original but don’t overdo it for the sake of it.
  • Proofread and proofread some more.

If you would like more tips, we have put together a guide on how to write a brilliant personal statement.

Just because it’s called a personal statement doesn’t mean Admissions Tutors want a timeline of your life. They want to see the best side of your academic self and your interest for the subject you are applying for. It’s beneficial to include:

  • Any subject-related work experience you have completed.
  • Any courses or lectures you have been to to advance your knowledge.
  • Demonstrations of your interest in the subject beyond the classroom.

Your personal statement is submitted alongside your UCAS form, so you don’t need to rehash any details which are included on the form in your statement. Remember your personal statement shows off why you are going to be a good choice for the university, so you should avoid explaining any potential disagreements that influenced your grades or reasons behind extended periods of leave.

We are home to the world's largest network of vetted Oxbridge-educated tutors, allowing us to pair each applicant with the perfect advisor for their personal statement. We are not just experts in the UCAS statement itself, but also armed with specific subject knowledge and personal experience of the Oxbridge application process, allowing us to help you with the research process as well as writing and editing the statement itself.

Our statistics speak for themselves: 100% of Oxbridge Applications students received an offer from at least two Russell Group Universities, and  Over 10,000 have secured places at Oxford and Cambridge. You can rest assured that Oxbridge Applications is the best chance to make sure the Personal Statement you submit is the absolute best it can be!

Yes, absolutely! We are lucky to have hundreds of talented tutors across the whole range of academic specialisms, including multidisciplinary courses.

Yes! We can help you regardless of whether you are applying to Oxford, Cambridge, or any other university. Moreover, your one statement will go to all of your UCAS choices, so its crucial that it ‘works’ across your choices, not only for Oxbridge. If you’re still unsure about your course choices and need some help, call us on +44(0)2074992394 or email [email protected]

We can and do, regularly, with great success. However, as there are many more postgraduate pathways, we need to ensure that we have the right expertise for you. Please enquire on +44(0)2074992394 or email [email protected]
