Peaceful protesters in Thailand were surprised when met not with police in riot gear ready to subdue them (as ordered by the government), but by police removing barricades and removing their helmets.
The protests were against former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who has been the focal point of contention within Thailand due to widespread alleged corruption and said to have large influence over Yingcluck Shinawatra, Thaksin’s sister and current Prime Minister.
The protesters planned to storm the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Bureau and were met with police laying down their shields and riot gear in solidarity with the protesters. PPE and HSPS applicants will note the contrast between this act of solidarity between the police and citizens and the increasing mounting tensions in the US, currently centered on the police brutality in Ferguson
